oh fun! you HAVE to raise them up on old musicals. it keeps our ever-spoiled generation, and the more spoiled one to come, delighted with one of the simplest and greatest things in this earthly life: a song and dance.
minus singing in the rain, of course, these are my musical favs (in this order)that have stood the test of time (meaning i've seen them a billion times and have never tired of them):
summer stock hello dolly easter parade american in paris anchors aweigh
i also have fond memories of state fair, swing time, follow the fleet, and tammy and the bachelor.
there's always sound of music, but i've been able to get sick of that one. it should be on the list though.
of course, i grew up on all gene kelly movies, and all fred astaire and ginger rogers movies. but, i'm not sure how interesting Top Hat would be to alex and jake. :) but, you never know! it thrilled my sisters and me for some reason. ;)
i've also been curious about all the judy garland/mickey rooney movies. they seem really fun and sweet, and look like they have pretty "innocent" and simple stories. but i've never seen any.
and of course, wizard of oz is never permitted. ;)
