happy birthday momma!

what would a mommy want to do on her birthday?

feed the baby duckies
buy fabric
get a massage
and eat baklava of course!

we had tons of fun and did exactly what the birthday girl was inclined to do. we ate at this funky greek restaraunt on mission st in santa cruz that's been there for ever, and the food was incredible!

thanks, mom, for sharing your day with me. i love you.

of termites and turning a quarter century

goodness, it's been a while since i've posted! we have been enjoying a large stretch of pleasant but busy days, including two weddings and the precious ressurection holy week. and on account of these things, there has been many a project to complete in the church office, and so i have thus been well-employed these several weeks. :)

in the midst of these glorious activities, we did again receive the grand seasonal entrance of our wood-delapidating friends. having been born into quite a large community, these that appear all over our kitchen floor and other culinary apparati apparently are the rejects. they have wings but cannot fly. they are birthed from the wall behind our fridge and then the fridge fan blows and out they come into society, squirming with shock in the middle of our floor. we weren't so surprised this time, since their inaugural appearance was a year ago this month. but it is disburbing, and so we expect to be driven from our quarters and watch our home get tented.

on a less entomological note, i turned 25 this weekend. though i had harbored some reservation about having such a birthday, i am bashfully pleased to say I got my socks blessed off. and the birthday was really more like a birthweekend. among many wonderful gifts, i received a tour of my dad's office (complete with stuffed sprigs!), a falafel, a dress, a feast a la Carmel, a sunday breakfast with cream and honey, a trip to downtown Los Gatos, and a surprise party with dear friends and family. any misgivings i had regarding the anniversary of my birth were reversed, and last night i layed my head on my pillow happy to be a quarter of a century and grateful for another year to live life in God's hands and among his people.

after we vacuumed 99.9% of them up, we pulled the fridge out from the wall and found a termite dynasty. i think the soundness of our walls have been compromised. thankfully, we have a landlord.

this is such a great picture of my adorable parents. they have great big generous hearts.

my dashing, cheerful husband. he has an equally great big generous heart, and a handsome face.

the sabbath breakfast my handsome and cheerful husband made for me. i never have oatmeal, but for some reason a little oatmeal with fresh strawberries, cream, and honey sounded divine.

i call him guido.

my favorite cake since day one, strawberry shortcake. mom hadn't made this for me since i was 15 (that was the infamouse cake-slide of '97), and so she pulled out all the stops and celebrated its ten-year absence. i cannot begin to describe how divine it was.

thank you to all my family and friends who joined forces and made my getting older such a blessing! i love you.
