advent calendar

so, today i made an Advent calendar. we learned much about the Church Calendar in college. and in last few years joe and i've been trying to structure more and more of our life around it. so we've decided to make the Advent calendar a part of our household this year and establish it as a tradition. part of the tradition will be making it. that's my job. :) joe's excited to fill each day with Word treasures that look forward to Christ. and together we'll be thinking of some palatable goodness to drop into each envelope. since we've never done this before, i really have very few ideas, but i have a feeling one really could do anything (that's small, of course).
has anyone out there done an advent calendar? what do you put in yours?

I've been wanting to do an advent calendar for years, but can't figure out just how I want it so I'm still waiting for that perfect idea. :) We have a basic one just counting days.

I've seen one that's like a flannel graph and each day adds a piece to a nativity scene with a scripture verse in it, but I've never seen it in a store. I think they made it, but I'm just not that clever. I'd buy one! :) I hope you get some good ideas on here I can copy!! :)

Here's a link to a friend's blog and some different things she's done. Her's is more of a fun goofy countdown for her 4 kids.

One thing that'll be new for us this year that I'm super excited to do is to make a gingerbread nativity scene in addition to a traditional gingerbread house. I think it'll be great for Alex and talking about the "Christmas Story" while working on each piece of it.

That's an awesome idea - is that a picture of the one you made? Let me know how it goes - great tradition!
